Public Records - A Division of Public Safety

Public Records, a division of the Department of Public Safety, is open to the public Monday - Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., excluding holidays. The following services are provided:

Local criminal background checks (Convictions resulting from arrests by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office and Greenville City Police Department.
Copies of accident and incident reports generated by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office and Greenville City Police Department.
Victims of crime receive the basic incident report free of charge.

All fees are charged in accordance with county policy. The Public Records office is located in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center, 4 McGee St. First Floor, Suite 119.

Fee Reduction:

Effective April 1, 2011, an adjusted fee structure has been approved for the Greenville County Department of Public Safety. One primary change is the copying / research fees of incident and accident reports, which have been reduced to $3.00. There is a new tiered structure for local background checks based on the time frame of the search; for example: $5.00 for a 5-year search, $10.00 for a 10-year search.
